More intense rain storms flood bus facilities and subway tunnels while heat waves buckle tracks, stress materials, and threaten customer and worker health. These impacts from a changing climate threaten state of good repair efforts, safety, and mobility. Participate in this webcast to learn about current and projected impacts of climate change on public transportation and strategies for managing these risks. FTA staff will present on the newly released report, Flooded Bus Barns and Buckled Rails: Public Transportation and Climate Change Adaptation. The report examines projected climate impacts on U.S. transit, climate change adaptation efforts by domestic and foreign transit agencies, transit adaptation strategies, risk management tools, and incorporation of adaptation into transit agency organizational structures and processes. The learning objectives for this webcast are: identify main climate change impacts on public transportation for different regions of the United States, understand risk management approaches for mitigating climate impacts, and link climate adaptation responses to existing transit agency processes and structures.
